Pearl Jarvis Augustus
Memories of Colonia Morelos
By Pearl Jarvis Augustus
Daughter of Samuel Walter Jarvis and Pearley Dean Taylor
Granddaughter of George and Ann Prior Jarvis

Nellie and I were walking from the ranch on plowed ground on right hand highway to the left side of highway where we moved. We were holding hands while walking on this ranch where Mother died. I saw 2 women with about 5 babies, (Frances lost 4 babies in Morelos - twin boys, baby boy she lost shortly after the birth. Stanely - Frances oldest had died with Menigites in Guadelupe about 1909 or 1910 dying 9 months of age.) around in the sky. Both Nellie and I saw these 2 women in white. Each one had a baby in their arms. with 3 other little ones by them.

A terrifying incident occured when Nellie and I were left with the boys. We were about 9 or 10, and we were feeling lonesome. Nellie locked herself in the closet and [managed to pull the trigger on a loaded] shot gun. I ran out screaming, "Nellie shot me." The boys were in the field working and all came running in.

Later, Willard Iveson, came for Nellie and everyone felt bad as we were like sisters! Her father had promised her everything, then he got her to St. George and she had to dig ditches.
